Aiying reported that the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission issued a press release warning the public to beware of an entity operating under the name "Proxinex" suspected of engaging in virtual asset-related fraud.
Investors reported difficulties in withdrawing virtual assets from Proxinex and were subsequently told that their "accounts did not exist." The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission also suspected that Proxinex hired agents to induce investors to deposit money into Proxinex through dating apps.
The agent may have forged documents claiming to be issued by a financial regulator and a financial institution in Hong Kong to embellish his resume. The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission has included Proxinex and its related websites in the Securities and Futures Commission's warning list of suspicious virtual asset trading platforms on July 2024, 7. Although the relevant website is currently unavailable, the public should be wary that scammers may continue to establish websites with similar domain names.
